SICF21 Grand Prize Artist Exhibition Kahoko Nakayama “SPOT - Perspective, rotation, development”

Presenting the solo exhibition of Kahoko Nakayama, SICF21 (the 21st Spiral Independent Creators Festival) Grand Prize winner. Nakayama has been selected this September, among 85 creators participating at the festival last year.  Her show “SPOT - Perspective, rotation, development” will take place at Showcase (Spiral 1F) from June 14 (mon) to June 20 (sun), 2021.

Her award-winning work "PLASTIC DAN-POLE" is made out of plastic cardboard, cut into a circular shape, layered to form a black cylinder rotating at a constant speed. The mysterious pieces, playing with light, transparency and movement have fascinated the viewers of SICF last year.  Awarded for successfully demonstrating the characteristics of the structure hidden within familiar materials, they raise common cardboard to the status of art piece.

The exhibition, will see the development of the "PLASTIC DAN-POLE" series with an extended composition from 3, last year to 10 cylinders, they will highlight the often overlooked role of light in art related venues.

■ Profile
Kahoko NAKAYAMA
Born in 1997, in Yamaguchi. Graduate from the Tsukuba University, School of Art and Design in 2020. Now enrolled in the Department of Arts of the Faculty of Comprehensive Human Sciences of the same university. Her practice focus on bringing to light premier elements such as shapes, colors and textures that are hidden in familiar materials. Nakayama creates works that are emphasizing with the characteristics of their material.
