At Spiral Garden will be held a retrospective exhibition of Mai Kurosaka, painter and illustrator, who died suddenly in May 2019. We will present the works that were in her atelier.
Kurosaka's painting have a lyrical atmosphere, they are subtle sceneries, like a scene extracted from a movie, a memory. Kurosawa never talked too much, but rather was conveying what she saw, as if she had become a vessel, directed by her imagination, translating on the canvas various scenes in a subdued tone.
Born in Aomori, she repeatedly portrayed the Hokkaido's landscapes of her childhood. She was also giving human attributes to her animal subjects. This retrospective will introduce her work in seven categories, such as "The scenery in her dreams", "The mental scenery", and "The movies that influenced her". Through viewing her works, you will gradually get to know Kurosaka's pure character, what went through her eyes, what she longed for and her vision of paradise.
