Hiroshi Nagai paintings depicts ambivalent motifs of "urban nature". Rather it is palm trees, pools, the blue of the sea and the sky or the reflection of a city buildings nightscape on the water, each motif on canvas is depicted in detail and yet with bold deformations.

Nagai's summer landscape series, with its unique depth and holding the paradox of being lively but also quiet and ephemeral, might be the most apreciated of the artist.

This summer, at Restaurant Bar CAY, “POOLS CAFE” will be opened for a limited amount of time, to present you with original works by Hiroshi Nagai focusing on the pool motif.

We invite you to take a break from the city and enjoy a good meal and a conversation in a summer resort-like atmosphere.

■ Profile

Hiroshi Nagai

Born in Tokushima (Japan) in 1947.
He began his career in graphic design in 1970 and became a freelance illustrator in 1978.

He has been noted for his tropical and clear landscape illustrations for the record jackets of Eiichi Otaki "A LONG VACATION" (the jacket has been awarded by CBS (Sony)) and "NIAGARA SONG BOOK", among others. And, while publishing his own illustrations book and having exhibitions of his works in and out of Japan, he has continued to create record jackets for various artists.
Publications : "A LONG VACATION" (1979) , "HALATION" (1981), "NIAGARA SONGBOOK" (1982)、 "time goes by..." (2008, reissued in 2016) , "CONTRAST" (2019)

In September 2020, he will be exhibiting his works in Sydney, Australia.
