Spiral gives you even more opportunities to enjoy the experience of art closer to you, by producing, in collaboration with artists, Instagram AR effects that can be use any time.
The first collaboration is with the kiri-e artist tanaka macoto (kiri-e = paper-cutting). tanaka macoto's unique style associates the meaning of the images and the words she extracts from receipts and books with the shapes she cuts out and turn them into.
The AR effect* 《kirie_tanakamacoto》's motif is taken from a kiri-e work by the artist, on the first issue of Spiral Paper, representing the portrait of Boss Mac of the underworld from the musical "Mac the Knife" , which was transformed into like a cheerful uncle. The elements of details such as the curly beard, the bird coming out of the hat, and the curly smoke coming out of the mouth are faithfully reproduced in AR, and the cheerful expression of Mac will appear on your face. Enjoy the magic of AR that would make any face look happy, and the delicate expressions of paper-cutting.
For this project, the AR filter design work has been handled by Play Project AR / T Group**, Graduate School of Media Design, Keio University.

*AR Effect
Augmented reality (AR) effects are computer-generated effects layered over the real-life image your camera displays. In Instagram Stories, an AR filter alters the image your front or back camera displays.
**Play Project AR / T Group, Graduate School of Media Design, Keio University
Play Project AR/T Group is researching new art experiences using AR with the assumption that by bringing art into the AR space, anyone can easily own art. The team aims for a future in which art, which until now has been mainly viewed by limited professionals and collectors, will be something that various people can enjoy as closer from them and their life.
We offer to 1 participant to this special campaign, to get his/her picture (postcard size) to be altered by tanaka makoto herself and turned into a kiri-e art piece.
To participate, take a picture using《kirie_tanakamacoto》AR filter, post it in your instagram story with the mention @spiral_jp .
