Fujiwo Ishimoto "Tsubomi-Buds" exhibition

A heart-warming experience that brings Art into everyday life.

Fujiwo Ishimoto's exhibition "Tsubomi-Buds-" will be held at Entrance (Spiral 1F), which proposes daily art easy to incorporate into the everyday life.

This exhibition is the first in about 3 years at Spiral. At this occasion, 36 "Tsubomi-Buds-" works as well as relief works inspired by the graphic designs created by Fujio Ishimoto in the past will be exhibited. In 2020, Ishimoto moved his creative base from Finland to Japan, and the works produced at his new atelier in Dogo hold different expression from the works produced in Finland.

At the venue, we will also introduce product "Mustakivi"'s items such as towels and tableware made in collaboration with Fujiwo Ishimoto.

Please take this opportunity to see many of Fujiwo Ishimoto's precious works.

Fujiwo Ishimoto
Fujiwo Ishimoto is a Japanese textile and ceramic artist. He worked for Marimekko (Finland) from 1974 to 2006, and he produced a remarkable 400+ fabric prints with various styles and techniques for Marimekko. His designs are mostly influenced by nature, and in particular the natural scenery of his hometown in Ehime. He also has a brilliant talent for creating mood shifters with colors. So many of his fabric designs continues to be re-released as an eternal classics of Marimekko. In 1989, he also became a member of the art department at Arabia, a famous Finnish pottery. During his time there, he produced a large number of expressive ceramic works featuring relief designs of flowers and fruits, among others. After being away for half a century, he returned to his hometown of Ehime in 2020 and is now passionately pursuing his creative activities.
Mustakivi
Mustakivi is a brand based in Ehime-prefecture. We develop and sell original items, mainly traditional crafts objects from Japan. With Fujiwo Ishimoto, the legendary designer of Marimekko and ceramic artist who was based and active in Finland for five decades, Mustakivi delivers products and experiences that add “joy” and “happiness” to the daily life, which would eventually mature into “affection” for the future. Our vision is creating timeless affection that transcends borders.
