Chinoko Sakamoto Studio work

A heart-warming experience that brings Art into Life.

This time Entrance (Spiral 1F), proposes a solo exhibition "Chinoko Sakamoto Studio work" and presents you with a selection of works easy to incorporate into your daily life.  

Chinoko Sakamoto was born in 1992. After graduating from the Sculpture department of the Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, in 2016, she received a grant from the same university to create and present her works in Great Britain. She encountered pottery while she was in college, and started her ceramic production almost self-taught. Since her return to Japan in 2018, she is based in Nagasaki. From 2021, she also started working on larger pieces, in a studio in Shigaraki-cho, Shiga Prefecture.

The motifs of her works are based on the forms and textures of all the things she encountered while living in England and Japan. They are then converted into ceramic sculptures with organic shapes enfolded by uniquely blended glaze colors. Each piece is unique, however, placing many of her works in the same environment, the viewers will be able to discover the relationships between lines, contours, colors, and volumes of an entire installation and they will be led to a space in which the works function as a whole, increasing, in a dialogue with one another.

In this exhibition, more than 100 of her new pieces, mainly small works that can easily be displayed in a private interior, will be exhibited and sold. Please take this opportunity to see the difference in scales, materials, and firing conditions, making each piece, produced while going back and forth between her studio in Nagasaki and Shigaraki, unique.
