「SICF15」（ 第15回スパイラル・インディペンデント・クリエーターズ・フェスティバル）に於いてグランプリを受賞した山本優美（ やまもとまさみ）による個展「うつしみ」をショウケースで開催しました。

何の変哲もない日用品をモチーフとし、粘土を本物と見紛う程に精巧に手作業で象り、硬く焼き上げた作品の数々。山本優美は、焼く事により形を留める陶器を「記憶のメディア」として捉え、かつてそれを身につけていた人々の姿を浮かび上がらせます。今回の個展では初めて、作家本人と深く関わりを持つ自身の祖母の持ち物をモチーフとし、祖母のライフストーリーを重ね合わせ、時間と想いを丁寧に彫り込んだ新作を展示しました。

展覧会タイトル「うつしみ」は、“この世に生きている身〈現身（うつしみ）〉”を意味し、現代に生きる人の痕跡を「記憶のメディア」で浮き彫りにすると共に「映し」、「移し」、「写し」といった同音の語から制作の裏側にある意図を彷彿とさせます。

SICF15 Grand Prix-Winner Exhibition: Masami Yamamoto “Utsushimi”

This solo exhibition at the ground floor　Showcase space featured the work of Masami Yamamoto, winner of the Grand Prix at the SICF15 in May.
Yamamoto’ s ceramic artworks are remarkably realistic recreations of everyday objects and clothes, intricately made by hand in clay. The artist interprets ceramic as a medium for memories. By remaking items in perfect clay forms, the artworks can express the original owner. The Spiral exhibition was the artist’s first solo show and included new work meticulously crafted to reflect the life of Yamamoto’s own grandmother through clay representations of her possessions.
The exhibition title is a play on the Japanese word for “ incarnation,” referring to how the artworks serve as memory media for expressing traces of modern human life.
