Greetings

Spiral is an arts complex founded by Wacoal Corporation in October 1985 in the Aoyama district of Tokyo. With the vision ‘culture as an enterprise’ and theme ‘the fusion of life and art’, Spiral is a space for presenting ideas to enrich people’s lives through the seamless integration of art into daily life.

Faced with yet another year of the COVID-19 global pandemic, throughout 2021 Spiral engaged in new initiatives befitting these times.

Within the Spiral building, our unique aesthetic lens guided our offering of ideas for bringing art into daily living spaces - what we call ‘Daily Art’. For our external art production projects, we kicked off a residential program for up-and-coming artists in an effort to revitalize Japan’s regions. We also focused on unearthing artists, especially the next generation of creators who are the very core of our work, and we revisited and further developed our platforms for ongoing collaboration with them. The road ahead is still long and challenging, but we will continue to harness art’s potential to enrich people’s lives.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported and collaborated in Spiral’s activities in 2021.
