タオルの産地として海外でも知名度の高い愛媛県今治市。名水晒として知られる蒼社川の良質な水に恵まれているこの地には、優れた染色技術が集積しています。

愛媛県繊維染色工業組合による今治の染色技術を紹介する本展覧会「IMABARI Color Show」では、1995 年に来日してから東京の色に魅了された建築家のエマニュエル・ムホーが、これまで誰も経験したことの無い1000 色の世界を作品化し、染色に必要な調合割合、温度湿度、時間の概念を「色のレシピ」として視覚的に表現したインスタレーションとして展開しました。

一般社団法人日本流行色協会（JAFCA）とのコラボレーションにより生まれた「今治の色」と、繊維工業の研究を続ける城西大学辻智佐子教授監修による染色技術の特別展示、染色工場を撮影した映像の展示のほか、スパイラルカフェのテーブルクロスも今治で染色したカラーに染まりました。2018年2月には今治市にて巡回展を開催しました。

IMABARI Color Show
Introducing dyeing techniques from the internationallyfamous  towel-producing region of Imabari, Ehime, this exhibition was held in December 2017 at Spiral Garden and then toured to Habari, an event venue in Imabari City, in February 2018. In total, the exhibition attracted approximately 12,000 visitors. The architect and designer Emmanuelle Moureaux visually expressed the concept of dyeing as a “color recipe” through an installation of 1,000
colors. In addition, there were related events such as a tour of a dyeing factory in Imabari as well as a workshop for participants to try dyeing. Spiral was involved in planning the exhibition.
